Associate Minister of Transport Craig Foss has released the final road toll for 2015 and the Overseas Drivers in Crashes report for 2000-2015.

The final road toll for 2015 was 320. The report shows between 2001 and 2014, New Zealand’s vehicle fleet increased by 32 per cent, the population grew by 16 per cent and travel was up by 15 per cent.

The Overseas Drivers in Crashes report compares NZ Transport Agency data with visitor arrivals and departures records from Customs.

The data shows that very few short-term visitors crash within their first few days in New Zealand. It found that fatigue was an issue for less than 10 percent of the short-term visitors who crashed within two days of arrival.

Overseas drivers made up less than 6 percent of all fatal and injury crashes in the years from 2010 to 2014.
